RKD STUDIES

Artists books and art publications

Introduction
Adriaan van Ravesteijn and Geert van Beijeren documented very extensively the artists in their gallery and broader the visual arts from the mid-1960s onwards. Besides a 'regular' collection of books on visual art such as monographs, exhibition catalogues and magazines, Van Ravesteijn and Van Beijeren also collected many artists' books and periodicals. The collection catalogued below contains, besides monographs of 'their artists', mainly artists' books and special editions in the field of conceptual art. Some of these were offered for sale at the gallery, especially in the early years of the gallery.1

The descriptions in this section largely follow standard library descriptions and are in some cases provided with a short annotation and/or literature reference. All descriptions of the Art & Project's artists' books and other publications in the collection of the RKD were made by Petra Luijkx after been arranged by Iveta Stanislavová. These descriptions were further arranged, translated and corrected for this publication by TG. Descriptions of artists books from the collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York were taken from their website and if available linked.

All publications from the RKD are part of the Art & Project Archive and are also described in the RKD Databases and can be found via RKD Explorer. Here, the copy numbers are linked to the descriptions in the RKD Library database. Behind these numbers, the placement code in the Art & Project Archive is given in straight brackets. For this publication, some annotations have been omitted (mentions of Art & Project stickers and other entries about the condition of the publications) and other data have been supplemented. Bibliographic features have been translated as far as possible and may sometimes differ from the English mode of bibliographic description methods.

Artist books and major monographic publications are arranged alphabetically by artist and then chronologically. Most artist books include a simple image for identification. In some cases, basic literature references have also been included. Periodicals and exhibition catalogues are arranged chronologically
